Access to the free version of the Grok AI chatbot has been activated for some users of the social network X.
Until now, access to X’s AI chatbot, Grok, was only available to paid users of the platform. It now appears that X is preparing to offer a free version of its AI chatbot.
Last week, several app researchers and users reported that the free version of Grok was becoming available to some users in specific regions. According to TechCrunch, X has started testing the free version of Grok’s AI chatbot in New Zealand.
According to one of the researchers, there are currently some limitations on using the free version of Grok, including 10 queries every two hours with the Grok-2 model, 20 queries every two hours with the Grok-2 Mini model, and a maximum of three image analysis queries per day. To use Grok for free, your account must be at least seven days old, and a phone number must be registered.
In August (Mordad and Shahrivar 1403), xAI introduced the Grok-2 model with image generation capabilities, which utilizes the FLUX.1 Black Forest model. Late last month, the company also added image recognition capabilities to this model.
However, until now, all the features of Grok-2 have only been available to Premium and Premium Plus users. By making the free version of Grok available, xAI is likely aiming to attract a larger user base and gather faster feedback for its products, allowing it to better compete with other models in the market, including ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.
