Microsoft is testing a sharing button in Windows 11

Microsoft and Google are working to make content sharing easier in Windows.

Microsoft is looking to increase the usage of the sharing button in an upcoming Windows 11 update to make content transfer between users easier. In the latest preview version of Windows 11, the company is testing a versatile sharing button across all areas of the OS. This version is now available to Windows Insiders in the Dev and Beta channels.

The sharing option in Windows 11

Access to the sharing button may vary depending on the application, but this new feature enables the addition of a sharing button throughout the Windows 11 operating system, including in the taskbar and Start menu. Users can easily send files, links, or texts directly from their desktop.

Users can see the sharing icon or the phrase “Share this item” by right-clicking within the Windows ecosystem. One Windows Insider user, under the username “Phantomofearth,” spotted this feature in the Windows 11 preview version with build number 22635.4445.

Google has confirmed the release of the Quick Share app for ARM-based Windows systems

In another news, Google has confirmed that Quick Share works on Windows computers with ARM processors. Although Google has not yet updated the Quick Share installer, it is expected that ARM-based Windows PCs will receive this feature before the end of 2024. Google is gradually expanding Quick Share’s compatibility. Previously known as Nearby Share, this feature has now merged with Samsung’s Quick Share and undergone a name change.

Last year, Quick Share became available for Windows PCs, specifically supporting x86 computers with Intel and AMD processors. Recent reports suggest that Google might also bring this feature to iPhones and MacBooks, meaning Quick Share could eventually be available on iOS and macOS as well.

While the future of Quick Share on iOS and macOS remains unclear, Google has confirmed that the feature is now available for ARM-based Windows computers.
