Microsoft Disables One of the Useful Features of Windows 11

According to Windows Central, Microsoft is set to remove another useful feature from Windows 11. This time, it’s the Suggested Actions menu, which will be fully removed in upcoming updates. First introduced in the 2022 update of Windows 11, this feature provided quick access to actions such as making a call or creating an event in the calendar.

The Suggested Actions feature in Windows 11 worked by automatically displaying a small menu with relevant options whenever a user copied a phone number or a date. For example, copying a phone number would show apps that could make a call, while copying a date would provide apps related to setting reminders or creating events.

Microsoft Removes the Suggested Actions Feature Description Page

Microsoft has removed the description page for the Suggested Actions feature. The Redmond company also stated that the feature is now deprecated and will be fully removed in future updates. They further announced that the feature will no longer be supported or developed, and users will bear responsibility for its usage.

Possible reasons for the removal of this feature include low usage rates by users or overlap with the new Click To Do feature, which offers similar functionality with the help of artificial intelligence. However, it’s worth noting that the Click To Do feature is only available for Co-Pilot Plus PCs, and users without such devices will be left without this functionality once Suggested Actions is removed.

The removal of the Suggested Actions feature is part of a broader trend of removing outdated and underused features in Windows 11. In 2023, 16 different features were removed from the operating system, the highest number of features removed in a single year for Windows. In contrast, 2024 saw a significantly lower number of feature removals from Windows 11.

This suggests that Microsoft is working to simplify and optimize its operating system by eliminating less-used features, although this may result in the loss of useful functionalities for certain users. The removal of Suggested Actions is an example of Microsoft’s new approach, aiming to replace old features with newer technologies, especially AI-based capabilities, to maximize user satisfaction.
