The King Salman Stadium and its master plan, which is being executed by Populous, a renowned American architectural firm, will be located in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The stadium will be built alongside a large park area that is currently under construction. As a result, many of the visualizations show a significant amount of greenery.
The stadium is designed as a large circular structure with separate sections, featuring walls and rooftops covered with greenery, and pedestrian pathways integrated into its roof. It will also include indoor screens, gardens, and rock climbing walls. Additionally, there will be an aquatic sports center with an Olympic-sized swimming pool and an athletics stadium.
Although exact dimensions of the King Salman Stadium have not been released, with a capacity of over 92,000 people, it will become the largest stadium in Saudi Arabia and one of the largest stadiums in the world. In addition to the main seating area, the stadium will also feature exclusive and premium seating sections.
The architectural firm Populous states that the design of the stadium is inspired by the natural landscapes of Saudi Arabia, following the symbolic concept that each location in the master plan represents a seed sprouting from the earth, appearing as a dynamic yet seemingly natural intervention. The planting of these seeds symbolizes Saudi Arabia’s commitment to enhancing and expanding sports participation, from grassroots and amateur levels to professional athletes and elites across the country.
