After surpassing 150 free channels earlier this year, Google TV is wrapping up 2024 with even more additions, just in time for the holiday season.
The Google TV Freeplay feature allows users to instantly start streaming free, ad-supported live channels when setting up a new Google TV device. However, this feature is currently limited to users in the United States. Since its launch, Freeplay has grown from around 80 channels to a robust collection, steadily expanding throughout the year.
In 2024 alone, Google added approximately 50 new channels, bringing the total to just under 160 by November. Now, Google has introduced over a dozen additional channels, with some tailored specifically for the holiday season.
Here’s the list of new additions:
- Designated Survivor
- Places & Spaces – The Great Christmas Light Fight
- Best of Dr. Phil
- Xumo Free Holiday Movie Channel
- Xumo Free Holiday Classics
- Xumo Christian Christmas
- Continuum
- Z Nation
- The Design Network
- Filmrise: Classic TV
- UFC
- Unbeaten
- Big 12 Studios
- Waypoint TV
- PursuitUP
Additionally, Stingray has temporarily updated some of its music channels for the holidays:
- Stingray Greatest Holiday Hits
- Stingray Soul Storm Christmas
- Stingray Hot Country Christmas
While the holiday-themed channels might be temporary, Google TV Freeplay now boasts a total of 171 free channels.
On the downside, Google has removed one channel from its car-focused lineup:
- Motortrend Fast TV
Beyond Freeplay, there are over 1,100 free channels available through partnerships with apps like Plex, PlutoTV, and others, though these require additional downloads.
However, the updated Freeplay app for Google TV has yet to reach most devices. Following reports of app crashes in early November, the update was rolled back from most devices except the Google TV Streamer.
