Google Introduces Gemini 2.0 Experimental Advanced Model with Enhanced Performance
Following the launch of Gemini 2.0 Flash Experimental last week, Google is now rolling out an upgraded “2.0 Experimental Advanced” model, available exclusively to Gemini Advanced subscribers.
This new model, labeled “Gemini-Exp-1206,” is accessible through the model picker on desktop and mobile web (excluding the app). Google describes it as offering “significantly improved performance” for complex tasks, such as coding, advanced mathematics, logical reasoning, and detailed instruction-based queries.
The 2.0 Experimental Advanced model is designed to handle challenging tasks with ease. It’s ideal for users tackling intricate coding projects, solving mathematical problems for academic or personal needs, or crafting detailed, multi-step plans like customized business strategies.
Early Preview with Limitations
While this release showcases Google’s advancements, it remains an early preview, meaning it might not always perform as expected. Additionally, the model lacks access to real-time information and is currently incompatible with some existing Gemini features due to its experimental nature.
Despite these limitations, Gemini-Exp-1206 has already claimed the top spot on the Chatbot Arena LLM Leaderboard, a testament to its impressive capabilities.
What’s Next for Gemini?
Until now, Gemini Advanced subscribers have had access to the 1.0 Ultra and 1.5 Pro models. The introduction of Gemini-Exp-1206 suggests it could be positioned as a 2.0 Pro or higher-tier model.
Looking ahead, Google has announced plans to release additional Gemini 2.0 model sizes in January 2025, coinciding with the general availability of Gemini 2.0 Flash for developers.
Pricing and Access
To access the Gemini Advanced features, including this experimental model, users need to subscribe to the Google One AI Premium plan, which costs $19.99 per month.
Stay tuned for more updates as Google continues to innovate in the AI landscape with its Gemini 2.0 lineup.
