Elon Musk recently revealed changes to the algorithm of the X social media platform, which have sparked reactions among users. He stated that the goal of these changes is to show users more educational and entertaining content, so they don’t feel regretful about the time spent on the platform.
Just days after his clash with opponents of the H-1B visa, Musk posted on his X account, saying, “Soon, changes will happen to the X algorithm to promote educational or entertaining content. We’re referring these changes to the X engineering team.”
Musk emphasized that the aim is to maximize the time users spend on the platform without feeling regretful. He pointed out that a lot of negative content circulates on the platform, which, although it grabs more user time, does not lead to fulfilling or positive experiences.
Musk also announced that X would work on providing users with more control over managing their content feed on the platform.
A few days ago, Elon Musk suggested that the United States should change its immigration process to attract top talent from different countries. This proposal was met with strong reactions from right-wing activists, who argued that America does not face a talent shortage and, in fact, needs to reduce immigration.
Following the debate, some opponents claimed that Musk had restricted their access. In response, the owner of X launched a harsh attack against them and declared war. Shortly after, Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum, urged Musk to be more restrained and not use his power to censor opponents. Musk later posted asking users to share more positive and educational content.
It seems these controversies will lead to changes in X’s algorithm. Some users believe this move is an attempt to increase censorship of Musk’s critics. Furthermore, many argue that Musk himself has contributed to the spread of negative content on the platform, and his recent calls for positive content seem hypocritical.
