Apple’s Artificial Intelligence Now Takes Up More Space on iPhone

Apple’s Artificial Intelligence Now Occupies Double the Storage on iPhone

Apple’s proprietary AI, Apple Intelligence, has brought a wave of new features to iPhones, iPads, and compatible Macs. Now, we know how much storage these features are taking up on these devices.

According to Apple’s official announcement, Apple Intelligence features in iOS 18.2 occupy about 7GB of storage on the iPhone. The same amount applies to iPads and compatible Macs, and implementing these features on each device requires approximately 21GB of storage.

The first batch of Apple Intelligence features, which were added to iPhones with iOS 18.1, only took up 4GB of storage. This means that AI-powered features in iOS 18.2 require nearly double the storage compared to before.

Given that Apple has added new AI features such as Genmoji, ChatGPT in Siri, Image Playground, and Visual Intelligence to iOS 18.2, the increased storage usage makes sense.

Apple Intelligence Features Will Likely Take Up More Storage on iPhones

With the arrival of new Apple Intelligence features, it’s likely that even more storage will be occupied on iPhones. It is reported that by the time iOS 19 is introduced, this storage usage could increase to around 10GB.

It’s important to note that the various Apple Intelligence features are processed locally on devices, meaning they can’t be used across the Apple ecosystem simply by enabling them on one device. Additionally, there is no option to deactivate these features in order to free up storage space.
